We the People Urge Congress to Enact Mandatory Country-of-Origin Labeling for Beef So Americans Can Begin Choosing to Support America’s Food Producers COVID-19 has shown that beef is essential to Americans’ health and safety. The current beef supply chain was put to the test and failed as many Americans were met with empty beef cases in grocery stores in some areas of the country. The U.S. imports beef from 20 foreign countries and Congress does not require imported beef to be labeled as to its origin. Congress should pass Mandatory Country-of-Origin Labeling to require all beef sold in the U.S.to be labeled as to where it was born, raised and harvested. Without Mandatory Country-of-Origin Labeling for beef consumers are subject to price gouging and paying record high prices for undifferentiated beef that is sourced at cheaper prices from foreign countries. U.S. born, raised and harvested beef is the most rigorously inspected, safest and most wholesome beef in the world and Americans deserve the right to choose where their beef is from. U.S. cattle farmers and being put out of business by cheaper, undifferentiated imports of beef and cattle because they have no ability to compete against these substitute products. Mandatory Country-of-Origin-Labeling for beef promotes economic and national food security and helps stimulate economic growth, creates local jobs, strengthens our working class and supports American industry, production and manufacturing. Congress must enact a new Mandatory Country-of-Origin Labeling law for beef so America can empower its consumers to begin supportingAmerica’s cattle farmers and ranchers.
