Jon Schaben of Dunlap, Iowa, along with his partners Will Epperly and Brian Brester and his family, operates the Dunlap Livestock Auction in Dunlap, Iowa, and the West Point Livestock Auction in West Point, Nebraska. Jon and his wife, Julie, have a cow/calf and backgrounding operation.
Jon was selected as the 2003 World Champion Livestock Auctioneer. He has been very active in the Livestock Marketing Association, serving as the Iowa president, a member of the auction contest committee at LMA, and also serving on its government and industry affairs committee.
In 2021, Jon had the pleasure of testifying in front of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on the lack of competitive bidding mechanisms in the fed cattle industry. He has stated for some time that the major problem in our industry is that we don’t use the same competitive standard to derive price in fed cattle marketing as we do in the feeder cattle marketplace.
