Highway 44\, Platte\, SD 57369 \nContact: Scott Kirsch\, Platte Livestock Market owner\, (605) 680-1900 or salebarn@midstatesd.net \nDescription: Platte Livestock Market will host an R-CALF USA rollover calf auction fundraiser at 2 p.m. Wednesday\, Sept. 25. James Fulwider and Kevin Talsma\, of Iona\, South Dakota\, will donate a calf to be auctioned for the event. \nA free barbecue lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the fundraiser. Platte Livestock Market auctioneer Brad Veurink will sell the calf\, with all proceeds benefiting R-CALF USA. Donors who contribute at least $250 will receive an R-CALF USA whip flag. \nR-CALF USA works on behalf of all U.S. cattle producers on various issues such as mandatory country-of-origin labeling (MCOOL)\, beef checkoff reform\, electronic identification\, captive supplies and packer ownership of livestock\, tariffs\, and fair trade. \nRollover auctions are volunteer-organized fundraising events in which supporters bid on a donated calf and then return it to be auctioned again until bidding ends. The calf is ultimately sold to the highest bidder. \nR-CALF USA is set apart from other national cattle associations by its reliance solely on membership dues and donations to carry out its mission to ensure the continued profitability and independence of U.S. cattle and sheep producers. It exists only because of support from its members.
