Dartmouth Ave.\, Newell\, SD 57760 \nContact: R-CALF USA Sheep Chair Bill Kluck\, (605) 645-8773 or echofarm@goldenwest.net \n  \nDescription: R-CALF USA Sheep Committee Chair Bill Kluck will host an informational meeting after the sheep sale at 5 p.m. on Thursday\, April 11\, at the High Plains Restaurant\, 105 S. Dartmouth Ave.\, in Newell\, South Dakota. The meeting is free and open to all independent sheep producers or anyone interested in the sheep industry. Dinner will not be provided. \nKluck will discuss R-CALF USA’s petition for relief on behalf of American sheep producers and why Congress needs to pass legislation to enact tariffs on imported lamb and mutton to save the U.S. sheep industry from price-depressing imports. Jim Selchert from U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds’ (R-S.D.) office will attend the meeting. \nOn August 3\, 2023\, Protect American Lamb\, a project under the auspices of the R-CALF USA Sheep Committee\, petitioned the United States Trade Representative for relief from lamb and mutton imports. Our petition requests our U.S. Trade Ambassador to direct the U.S. International Trade Commission to conduct a Global Safeguard Investigation and it asks Congress to establish tariffs on imported lamb and mutton to encourage regrowth in our U.S. sheep industry. \nR-CALF USA represents the U.S. cattle and sheep industries in trade and marketing issues to ensure the continued profitability and viability of independent U.S. cattle and sheep producers. It relies solely on membership dues and donations to carry out its mission to ensure the continued profitability and independence of U.S. cattle and sheep producers. It exists only because of support from its members.
