What You Can Do to Help Pass Country of Origin Labeling There are 14 House members and 7 Senate members for a total of 21 Farm Bill Conferees. These Conferees will decide if mandatory country of origin labeling will become law. The Conferees are meeting right now and will be making their decision soon.
R-CALF USA is supporting the Senate version of mandatory country of origin
labeling. It requires that
animals be born, raised, and slaughtered to be eligible for the USA label.
If you live in a state that has one or more Farm Bill Conferee Members, please
call the member(s) and urge them to support the Senate version of mandatory
country of origin labeling.
Here is a suggested message to each conferee:
“Hello,
I am (your name), and I am a cattle producer from (town), (state).
Please
support the Senate version of mandatory country of origin labeling.
We need this to compete against rising imports of foreign beef and
cattle. Consumers need this
so they can exercise their right to choose to buy either domestic or foreign
beef.
We
need your support in order to maintain a viable and profitable U.S. cattle
industry.
Thank
you.”
